The Artist
My name is Glasford James
Hunter and I am an artist living in South East London. I have always had a very
keen interest in the arts and first spent some time
pursuing a musical career,
and I have worked with several musical groups, and I have participated with
recording our own material and toured the UK and some overseas countries. In the
eighties I decided to have a change of career and did a series of studied
subjects with the Inner London Education Authority, two of which consisted of
pre-foundation and foundation in art. I then went on to study fine art at
Camberwell School of Art and Craft and the Slade School of Art, University of
London.
I
have used computer technology as a medium in which each design is an end in
itself. I also extend some of my designs to canvass with oil paint,
ultimately
to achieve both the processes, that of the mechanical and the electronic
development with new computer technology and the traditional aspects of canvass
and paint. I enjoy using different media, particularly those of which I have
described. They help to motivate me because one very important concern for all
artists is we all need inspiration. Working with new computer technology is of
no little tribute to me for it has brought me to experimentation.
I have dyslexia which is one of the reasons why I attend the Independents Centre. The centre has opened new areas of interest, at present I am involved with the photography group. I find the centre to be very rewarding, the staff are very caring, encouraging and willing to help. The centre has a wide range of different activities to offer to the users. I am delighted that they have offered me the opportunity to work on the graphics project, which I find a tremendous boost to my confidence with my dyslexia because sometimes I don't have any control over all the elements of my work. Having the use of the computer has helped me tremendously to think things through. I feel that I am a sophisticated artist and I have to move with the times, new computer technology has created that possibility with ideas and with consistency can produce art revolutionised. I am convinced that part of the value of using this medium as I have, is contained within experimentation.
